**Deterministic Engineering …**

… answers with a *single* number,

assumed to occur with certitude.

It has a hidden order that can be

quantified, and used to advantage.

**Statistical Engineering** provides

a *range* of likely answers, *plus* a

statement on the *probability*

of a given result.

Statistical Engineering quantifies factors otherwise left to intuition, like uncertainty, incomplete information and complicated interdependencies, and thus leverages the engineer’s understanding of *how* things work with the statistician’s capacity to figure out *why* when they don’t.

Statistical Engineering is far more than a one-sentence overview of course. We suggest a more complete definition here.

#### Note to returning visitors:

Please be patient while we completely overhaul our Statistical Engineering website, which is 20 years old and was limping along as an **html** technological kludge. (**php** is what’s happening now.) Microsoft FrontPage was replaced by Expression Web for patching up the old **html**, but now, since neither program is supported by my original web-host (with good reason: archaic technology), we’re starting over with WordPress. We are keeping much of our old content, of course, because the ideas they explain are timeless.

Thank you for your patience. (Don’t forget to look into our 2-day Workshop and Shortcourse explaining extremely useful statistical realities that we engineers will never see in that loathesome required course on Engineering Statistics.)
